Michigan man accused of stabbing ex-partner and killing her toddler charged with string of crimes US News

A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and killing her toddler has been charged with a string of offences, including murder.

Rashad Trice, 26, faces 20 charges from the U.S. Attorney General of Michigan in connection with the murder of two-year-old Wynter Cole-Smith, sexual assault and assault with intent to murder.

Tris is accused of abducting the child in Lansing Township on July 2, allegedly sexually assaulting her mother, and was arrested on the morning of July 3.

However, he was not with Winter when he was arrested, and her body was found in a Detroit alley three days later.

Federal investigators said they believed the two-year-old was strangled to death by a cell phone charging cable.

“Many of our charges today reflect a horrific and brutal crime spree from Lansing to Detroit to the St. Clair coast,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement.

The charges against Tris include murder, kidnapping and kidnapping causing death.

Trice is currently being held at the Newwego County Jail, where he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
